Denmark on Saturday urged its citizens to immediately leave Indonesia, warning of "imminent danger" from Muslim protesters seeking revenge for Danish newspaper cartoons of Prophet Mohammad.
The warning came hours after Denmark announced the withdrawal of its embassy staff from Indonesia, Iran and Syria, where Danish embassies were attacked by outraging protestors.
"Concrete information indicates that an extremist group wishes to actively seek out Danes in protest for the publication of the Prophet Mohammad cartoons," the ministry said in a statement.
The statement said that threat to Danes was currently concentrated in the western part of Java, but could spread to the rest of Indonesia, including Bali.
While other European countries have also been targeted by angry Muslims, Denmark, where the offending cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad were first published, had absorbed the brunt of Muslim anger.
