The Danish government has withdrawn its ambassador to Indonesia due to security reason, following the massive protests against the controversial publication of cartoon of the Prophet Mohammad, according to Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda.
"Danish government has decided to temporarily to relocate it ambassador and his staffs from Jakarta, by the reason of security, and they would return when the situation is safe," Wirajuda said here Sunday.
He said Denmark would temporarily be represented by Dutch mission office.
Indonesia considered the Danish government's decision as hasty as the Indonesian police have beefed up security protection to the Danish nationals here, said Wirajuda.
"We see this decision as hasty, because we have given protection to the ambassador and his staff," he said.
Wirajuda also claimed that so far the demonstration in Indonesia is peaceful.
Indonesian police have stepped up security for foreign nationals especially those from the countries which have link with the cartoon publication, spokesman Anton Bachrul Alam told Xinhua in telephone.
The cartoons were first published in September last year in a Danish newspaper, triggering anger and protests among Islamic countries.
