SAIC SsangYong forges specialized RV manufacturer

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) Ssang Yong Motor recently released its mid and long-term strategic plan in Republic of Korea. According to the plan it will invest a total of $2.5 billion in the next five years to become a world-class specialized RV manufacturer.

SAIC and Ssang Yong Motor plan to jointly develop a new platform for front engine/front-wheel drive body monocoque models, which accommodates the mid-sized and small proprietary brand cars being developed by SAIC and small SUV, MPV Ssang Yong cars.

SAIC Ssang Yong plans to realize whole-car sale of 172,000 units by 2006 and 340,000 by 2010, with sales in ROK and export to reach 153,000 and 186,000 units respectively, taking over 10 percent of ROK domestic market.
