China's largest petrochemical JV goes into operation

China's largest petrochemical joint venture -- China National Offshore Oil Company Limited (CNOOC) and Shell Petrochemicals Company Limited (CSPCL) - announced on Friday that it successfully produced on-specification ethylene and propylene on January 29, 2006 at its petrochemicals complex at the Daya Bay in Huizhou, South China's Guangdong province, reports People's Daily on Monday.

The Shell is located in the economic and technological development zone of Huizhou, Guangdong, close to the northern bank of the Daya Bay.

The Shell will turn out about 2.3 million tons of petrochemical products with a sales volume of about 1.7 billion US dollars, said an official with CNOOC. Products will be mainly supplied to Guangdong as well as other coastal areas in the country that have large demand for chemical products. Part of the products will be exported overseas.
