China, US in active preparation for Chinese president's visit to US

Both China and the United States are actively preparing for Chinese President Hu Jintao's planned visit to the U.S.in the first half of 2006, said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman on Tuesday.

Spokesman Liu Jianchao made the remarks when answering a journalist's question at a news briefing.

Liu said that the two sides would decide the specific date of the visit through diplomatic channels.

"China will continue its efforts to ensure the success of the visit and accomplishment of expected goals." Liu said.
