Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Tuesday in Beijing that China hopes to ink an anti-narcotics agreement with Myanmar at an early date.
Wen expressed the wish while meeting with his Myanmar counterpart Soe Win, who is on a a five-day official visit to China.
"The flood of drugs at the border area between China and Myanmar has exerted tremendous havoc on local society and people's health," Wen said. "High attention should be given to it and severe measures should be taken to check it."
Wen said that China hopes to step up bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Myanmar and sign an anti-narcotics agreement at an early date.
Soe Win said Myanmar would like to intensify coordination and cooperation with China and properly settle the issues that China is concerned about.
