China and Myanmar, both as developing countries, can learn from each other in working to stimulate economic growth and improving living standards, said Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo in Beijing Wednesday.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), made the remarks in his meeting with visiting Myanmar Prime Minister Soe Win.

Wu said China and Myanmar have traditionally enjoyed a strong friendship and they have supported each other in safeguarding national sovereignty and national dignity. The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, jointly initiated by China and Myanmar, have become the basic principles in dealing with international relations.

China values its close relationship with Myanmar and will work with Myanmar to achieve common development and prosperity, said Wu.

Soe Win said Myanmar is ready to cement its traditional friendship with China and will increase cooperation between the two nations in various fields.

He reiterated that Myanmar will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy.

Soe Win praised the NPC's role in ensuring China's social and economic progress. He briefed Wu on the situation of Myanmar's national reconciliation process, saying that Myanmar is willing to learn from China's experiences.
