Indonesia's motorcycle production fell 31.03 percent to 267,641 units in January as against 388,040 in the same month a year earlier.
Major motorcycle-makers put a brake on production due to the sluggish demand after the sharp hike in fuel prices last October, Bisnis Indonesia newspaper reported Thursday.
People's purchase power was also weakened by the soaring bank interests, it said.
The production figure came from seven major manufacturers grouping in the Indonesian Motorcycle Industries Association (AISI) . They include Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Kanzen, Kymco and Piaggio.
