Vietnam consistently sticks to the one-China policy, the People's Army newspaper reported on Thursday.
"Vietnam confirms its consistent stance on the one-China policy, supports China's great cause of reunification and opposes acts for 'Taiwan independence' in any form," said the newspaper, quoting the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Le Dung.
The spokesman reiterated the Vietnamese stand when asked to comment on the remarks by Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian on Jan. 29.
Vietnam praises China's recent efforts to boost relations across the Taiwan Strait in a peaceful and stable manner, he said.
Chen Shui-bian, in a Lunar New Year speech on Jan. 29, called for the abolishment of the "National Unification Council (NUC)" and the "National Unification Guidelines," the formulation of a "new constitution" and "the application for United Nations membership under the name of Taiwan."
By making the remarks, Chen once again challenged the one-China principle which is widely observed by the international community.
