Nearly 6,000 die in coalmine accidents in 2005

Over 3,300 casualty-incurring accidents occurred in Chinese coalmines last year, which caused 5,986 deaths, according to statistics recently released by the Energy Bureau of the National Development and Reform Commission.

Local small coalmines were hard hit by coalmine accidents. Township private coalmines saw over 2,500 death-incurring accidents last year, which led to about 4,500 deaths.
