Shanghai to plant an additional 1,000 hectares of green fields

Shanghai will plant an additional 1,000 hectares of green fields, including 500 hectares of public green land, and have 30,000 mu or 2,000 hectares of land afforested.

The city will also focus on the greening and ecological construction of "one ring, two districts and one island" ("one ring": outer-ring ecological construction; "two districts": central city area and world expos garden; "one island": ecological construction on Chongming Island), which was learned from the Shanghai Municipal Afforestation Administration on Thursday.

By 2010, the average public green area per capita in the central city of Shanghai will reach 13 square meters with 38 per cent of green coverage, 14 per cent of forest area, 30 per cent of natural wetland and 13 per cent of natural reserve area.
