China publishes book on bonsai philosophy of ROK peasant
font size

China has published a book that narrates a peasant's life story and his bonsai philosophy in Republic of Korea (ROK).

The author of the book "Spirited Garden" is Sung Bum-young who has spent 38 years of hard work establishing the world's only bonsai theme park in the once bleak and desolate southern island of Jeju.

"My purpose of developing bonsai is not just for viewing. I hope people living in the din and bustle of the city can find his own serenity in bonsai," said Sung at the book-launching ceremony held here on Friday.

The book was first written in Korean and was published in 2003. Its English edition followed shortly after.

"The publication of its Chinese edition at this time will surely give an impetus to cultural exchanges between China and ROK," Sung said.

"I hope through bonsai art I can exchange views with the Chinese people in a broader manner," he added.
