A poultry farm owner was suspected of dying of bird flu in hospital of west India's Gujarat, neighboring to bird flu-hit Maharashtra, Press Trust of India reported Sunday.

The 27-year-old man, coming from Nandurbar District of Maharashtra, died in hospital of Surat District of Gujarat on Friday, according to the local government.

The local authority suspected his death was caused by bird flu but can not confirm till his blood report comes back from the lab, said Vatsala Vasudev, district collector of Surat.

Department of Animal Husbandry told Xinhua Sunday morning that no human infection of bird flu has been confirmed so far.

Five people have symptoms of flu and their blood samples have been sent to the lab. The result will come out in next three to four days.

The Indian government lab confirmed the first cases of bird flu in Nandurbar District in northern part of Maharashtra on Saturday. Eight of 12 chicken samples taken from the district were positive of bird flu.

The local government has closed a three-km radius and around 300,000 chickens in 16 affected poultry farms will be culled.

A surveillance zone, which lies within a radius of 10 km, was set up as well with around 1 million chickens in 60 farms will be vaccinated.
