China offers $1 mln for Philippine landslide reliefThe Chinese government has decided to offer one million US dollars worth of emergency relief for the Philippine government to help its disaster-relief efforts in the landslide area. According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Saturday, the relief fund includes 250,000 U.S. dollars in cash. A massive landslide swept away more than 300 households in minutes in south-central Philippines on Friday. Only 86 survivors have been found of an estimated village population of 2,000. Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a message of condolence on Friday to Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo over the heavy casualties and property loss caused by the landslide.
