Roadside bomb hits foreign convoy in Baghdad, injuring 11
font size

Eleven people were wounded, including two foreigners, when a roadside bomb struck on Monday a convoy of sport utility vehicles (SUV), usually used by foreign security contractors, in eastern Baghdad, a police source told Xinhua.

"The blast wounded nine Iraqi civilians and two unidentified foreigners as their car was destroyed in the attack," said Captain Ahmed Abdullah, from Baghdad police.

"An explosive device went off at about 9:30 a.m. (0630 GMT) when the convoy of SUVs was passing near the Transport Ministry, setting one of the vehicles ablaze," Abdullah said.

The U.S. troops immediately reached the area and cordoned off the scene, Abdullah added.

The U.S. military had no word on the incident so far.

The nationalities of the two injured foreigners were not immediately clear.

Insurgents frequently attack U.S. troops, foreign security contractors and Iraqi forces in an attempt to cripple the U.S.- backed political process.
