UK Deputy PM arrives in Beijing for official visit

John Prescott, Deputy Prime Minister and First Secretary of State of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland arrived in Beijing Monday, starting a seven-day official visit to China.

Prescott is visiting the country at the invitation of the Chinese government. During his stay in the Chinese capital, he is expected to meet Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and other senior officials.

Apart from Beijing, his tour destinations also include Ningbo, a booming city in east China's Zhejiang Province, Shanghai and Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.
