The second-phase project of cooperation in the astronomy area between China and Argentina is progressing smoothly. The third generation precision satellite laser ranger (SLR) has been installed and tuned ready for operation at San Juan University observatory.

The leader of a visiting delegation of China National Astronomical Observatories (NAOC) said in Buenos Aires that this is the first satellite laser ranger China has installed in South America. The SLR will be used in satellite laser distance measuring jointly launched by NAOC and Argentine San Juan University. This is also the largest international astronomical cooperation project ever launched by China in South America.
