"Super Girl" Li Yuchun, winner of the latest "Super Voice Girls" singing contest of the mainland, finally started to talk with media before she ended her Taiwan tour. Local reporters hastily tore their logos off microphones so as not to "expose their identities", seemingly in an "underground interview".
Taiwan official explains vaguely
On Li's silence, a Taiwan official in charge of mainland affairs explained that it's because Li only applied for performance in Taiwan.
Does it mean that the "super girl" can only sing but not talk, or she cannot talk to her fans in Taiwan or the dedicated media seeking news? For this, the official didn't make further explanation, but did say that there was no order for Taiwan media to "hide". Some media, however, disclosed that they were requested to do so by the organizer, who was afraid of troubles.
Li played down the question that whether it's hard for her to keep silent in front of Taiwan media. She replied: "It's ok." When further asked "Isn't it hard?", the "super girl" thought about it and answered: "I'm used to talking little." Her quiet nature is one thing, but it would be another thing if she is forbidden to talk.
Fans waiting in the rain
According to local reports, during her short stay in Taiwan, Li Yunchun bought a pair of sneakers in the island's landmark Taipei 101 Tower and tasted congee in the well-known "Xifan Street" (literally "Congee Street"). It seems she has a special preference for light pickles such as bamboo shoot.
Li Yuchun visited Taiwan for a concert jointly organized by Taiwan's trade union of actors, Eastern Multimedia Group (EMG) and Fujian Media Group.
Since Li Yuchun's arrival at the Taipei Airport on Feb. 16, local fans have been following all along. Before the performance on Feb. 19, fans had long waited at Taipei Sports Dome in the rain, holding posters as a welcome.
Not letting them down, Li Yuchun presented her signature song. Her thick voice and smart postures won waves of applauses from the audience. There were media commending that she "sings her songs with a full house of applaud."
Wish "little Chun" not "dumb" next time
Li Yuchun indeed won quite a lot applauses and flowers during her Taiwan tour. Some fans shouted out time and again: "Welcome to Taiwan, little Chun", to whom she could only reply with smiling and waving.
Major news media in Taiwan all reported on Li Yuchun's first visit to the island, mainly focusing on her silence due to restrictions set by Taiwan authorities.
In an interview, Taiwan pop legend Li Zongsheng said implicitly that singers seldom touch politics. Even if Li were allowed to speak out, she wouldn't talk on sensitive issues.
Li Yuchun left Taiwan Monday. Local media expressed welcome for her second visit, in which she can feel free to talk as well as to show her charm as a "super girl".
