Google resists US Justice Dept's request over privacy issues
font size

Google will further argue the controversial information disclosure issue against the US Justice Department, stressing US government may violate the privacy rights of its users.

Prior to this, the US Justice Department asked AOL, Microsoft and Yahoo to hand over a random sample of 1 million web searches from their index's just over a month ago, saying it could use search results from Google and other companies to assess Internet filtering which is seen as measures to protect children from Internet pornography.

According to sources, Yahoo Inc. and Microsoft Corp have agreed to provide the information. But Google has refused saying that releasing the data could set a precedent for more intrusive future government demands.
