FM spokesman: SCO needs consensus in absorbing new member states
font size

Member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) needs to reach consensus through consultation in absorbing new members, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said in Beijing Tuesday.

When asked to comment on Pakistan's intention to become a full member of the SCO, Liu said, China will convey Pakistan's wish to every member country of the SCO.

The SCO pursues an open principle in absorbing new members, Liu said, adding that the member states are now discussing to determine the status of the four observer countries so as to better promote the cooperation within the organization framework.

The member states of SCO have reached consensus agreeing to further build up the organization and deepen the cooperation between member states in various fields, the spokesman said.
