Canon Hong Kong Company Limited announced on Tuesday that the company is to formally launch Asia's first revolving neon advertising sign in Hong Kong in March.
Measuring 29 meters in length, and seven meters in height, the 75-ton dual-face sign uses 3,200 neon tubes extending to a cumulative length of 6.5 kilometers, and turns on its axis once every four to five minutes.
President and Chief Executive Officer of Canon Hong Kong Co. Ltd Kensaku Konishi said at a press conference that the Canon revolving neon advertising sign is expected to be an excellent showcase for Canon brand.
He said over 20 million tourists visited Hong Kong last year and about 30 percent of the company's customers are from the Chinese mainland. He expects the new advertising sign to help attract more customers.
He said the company eyes the long-term interest in Hong Kong and has full confidence in the Hong Kong market, though the neon advertising sign costs 30 million HK dollars (3.87 million U.S. dollars).
Canon Hong Kong's sales in Hong Kong in 2005 increased by 20 percent over 2004, reaching 1.74 billion HK dollars (225 million U.S. dollars) and the company targets to achieve a 15-percent growth in 2006.
