East China's Shandong Province, one of the nation's major suppliers of agricultural products, realized a grain output growth for three years in a row, thanks largely to government stimuli for farmers and favorable climate.
According to the provincial statistical bureau, Shandong yielded 39.17 million tons of grain last year, representing a year-on-year growth of 11.4 percent. The growth rate was a record high since 1985, the bureau said.
Last year Shandong had 100.68 million mu (about 6.7 million hectares) of land sown to grain, up 6.3 percent year-on-year.
Government stimuli for farmers included tax exception and direct subsidies for grain growing and cereal strains cultivation. Fine weather was another important factor behind the harvest, the bureau added.
