The per-capita consumption averaged 10,815 yuan (1,334 U.S. dollars) last year in 16 major cities at the booming Yangtze River Delta in eastern China, representing a year-on-year growth of 12.7 percent.

According to the provincial statistical bureau of Jiangsu, an economic engine on the Delta, urbanites in the region spent 2,977 yuan (367 U.S. dollars) per-capita in services last year, up 16.5 percent.

The bureau said Shanghai and Zhejiang, another two economic locomotives on the Delta, recorded per-capita consumption of 13,773 yuan (1,698 U.S. dollars) and 12,009 yuan (1,480 U.S. dollars) respectively. Both were higher than the average.

Among the 16 major cities, Shanghai witnessed its residents spend most in services, averaging 4,447 yuan (548 U.S. dollars) per-capita, up 32.3 percent over the year-earlier level, the bureau added.
