Senior officials of Hong Kong visited Shenzhen Thursday and met with their counterparts for further strategic cooperation between the two areas.
During the meeting with the Mayor of Shenzhen Xu Zongheng, Rafael Hui, Chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) said geographical proximity made Hong Kong and Shenzhen closely connected with a bright future for cooperation.
"Co-operation is very important for both practical needs and strategic development. Therefore, the government of HKSAR attaches great importance to co-operation and exchanges with Shenzhen,"said Hui.
Hong Kong and Shenzhen decided to form a joint team to study the proposal of building a new immigration control point at Liantang. The team will discuss a series of related issues, including cross-boundary traffic flow analysis.
Besides, the two sides will enhance co-operation on combating illegal import and export of live poultry and strengthening surveillance and inspection of markets in order to reduce the risks of a possible breakout of bird flu.
