Tianjin honored with model city for environmental protection
font size

Tianjin has become China's first municipality directly under the Central Government to win the title "national model city for environmental protection".

Tianjin has built a variety of model projects in environmental protection infrastructures, ranging from the development of cycling economy, recycle of gray water, reclamation and disposal of hazardous wastes, serving as models for other cities in China.

All the 500,000 tons of steel slag and 2.4 million tons of fly ash produced in the city annually have been treated and used. In 2004, recycled water was introduced to houses of six million square meters; about 60 million tons of recycled water was used in improving ecological environment.
