China, Britain inaugurate new campus for University of Nottingham

China and Britain inaugurated a new campus for the University of Nottingham in East China's Zhejiang Province on Thursday.

The campus is located in Ningbo, a coastal booming city in Zhejiang.

Chinese State Councilor Chen Zhili and visiting British Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott attended the inauguration ceremony.

The two sides also exchanged views on how to promote bilateral cooperation in the educational, cultural, scientific and technological spheres.

Chen said: "We earnestly brought in the teaching philosophy of the University of Nottingham and hoped that the Chinese and British institutions of higher learning can compete with each other in striving for better education quality."

John Prescott said he is pleased to see a permanent campus for University of Nottingham in China, adding the campus is a symbol of China-Britain friendship and cooperation.

The University of Nottingham in central England was founded in 1881. It was cradle to many Nobel Prize winners.

The University of Nottingham, China Campus is the first endeavor between the Chinese and British educational sectors.
