British Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott arrived in Southwest China's Sichuan Province on Saturday afternoon.

In Chengdu, capital of the province, Prescott visited the local football club, Chengdu Blades FC, in which the British Sheffield United football club owns a 90 percent stake.

Prescott said he wished the local football club could one day make its name known to the whole world.

Prescott also met with Zhang Zhongwei, governor of Sichuan.

The deputy prime minister is in the country for a seven-day official visit.
