Vietnam gains bigger export earnings in first two months

Vietnam is estimated to reap export revenues of nearly 5.6 billion U.S. dollars in the first two months of this year, posting a year-on-year surge of 28.3 percent, according to a local trade information agency on Sunday.

Items recording high export growths include rubber, up 81.7 percent to 156 million dollars; textiles and garments, up 45.5 percent to 867 million dollars; and footwear, up 30.8 percent to 582 million dollars, said the Trade Ministry's Trade Information Center.

In the two-month period, the country is expected to earn 157 million dollars from shipping abroad 300,000 tons of rice, slightly rise in value over the same period last year, said the center.

Vietnam, which posted export turnovers of 32.2 billion dollars in 2005, a year-on-year increase of 21.6 percent, is boosting exports having large revenues, diversifying markets and fostering trade promotion in an attempt to gain export growth of 16.4 percent in 2006.
