Imports of faulty milk powder bannedChina's quarantine authority ordered a ban on imports of faulty milk powder produced by US baby food manufacturer Mead Johnson Nutritionals' on Friday. The move follows the recent recall by the company of the Gentlease branded product, with batch number BMJ19, sold in the United States. Another defective product is the Enfamil LIPIL formula sold in South Korea. Both products have been recalled by Mead Johnson Nutritioinals due to unidentified metal particles contained in the milk power, a press release from Mead Johnson Nutritionals (Guangzhou) Ltd said on Friday. The batch code is located on the bottom of the can. The company said the two products are not sold in Chinese stores and supermarkets. The State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine warned customers with the recalled product to discontinue using it. The authority has ordered a strict nationwide check-up of other milk powders in China produced by Mead Johnson Nutritionals . If an infant inhales the product, some of the metal particles could present a serious risk to the baby's respiratory system, the press release from the company explains. There is also a small risk that these particles could damage the baby's throat.
