The match of the Czech Republic with Russia for the third place at the Turin Olympics was probably the last for Jaromir Jagr in the Czech national team, Jagr said Sunday.
"It was probably my last match in the national team. Like for lots of boys," said Jagr, 34, who did not finish the match with Russia due to a thigh injury.
"I do not think it is soon. I think there is time to leave, at least I feel so. This is my feeling," said Jagr after the 3-0 victory in which Czechs won the bronze medal at the Olympic tournament.
Jagr said that in terms of health, he felt good, but he was tired of the great responsibility, expectations and hopes placed in him by everyone.
"It is awfully exhausting and devastating. This is sport and sometimes it simply does not work," Jagr said.
Jagr, who started playing for the Czechoslovak national team in 1989 and now plays for NHL's New York Rangers, said that the only thing that could make him change his mind would be his return to Europe.
"If I played in the Czech Republic or elsewhere in Europe, However, I do not feel like making the change," Jagr said.
Jagr said that there was time for younger players to seize the leading role in the national team.
"At our age, some players do not play any longer. There is time to leave and like everyone says, leave it to the young," he said.
