Shaanxi Province, located at the northwestern part of the Chinese mainland, reported an actual use of 4.48 million U.S. dollars of investment from Taiwan region last year, up 38.12 percent year-on-year, official statistics show.

In the past year, Shaanxi reported 29 new Taiwan-funded businesses with the contractual use of Taiwan capital reaching more than 20 million U.S. dollars, according to the Shaanxi Provincial Office for Taiwan Affairs.

The office owed the growth of investment from Taiwan to the historic visits paid by the then Kuomintang Party Chairman Lien Chan and People First Party Chairman James Soong last year which not only spurred the popularity of Shaanxi in Taiwan, but also pushed a wave for Taiwan business people to go to Shaanxi for investment.

To intensify the economic and trade exchanges between Shaanxi and Taiwan, the mainland province organized a string of forums and trade activities in science, technology, finance and other areas.

To date, Shaanxi has approved 692 Taiwan-funded projects, with a contractual use of 1.22 billion U.S. dollars of Taiwan capital and an actual use of 683 million U.S. dollars of Taiwan capital, statistics show.

Shaanxi will try to draw more investment from influential Taiwan businesses in electronics, tourism, energy, chemical industry and bio-medicine this year, according to the Shaanxi Provincial Office for Taiwan Affairs.
