China's electronics, information industry sales to grow by 20 percent in 2006

The sales volume of China's electronics and information industry is expected to grow by 20 percent in 2006, according to an official with the Ministry of Information Industry.

Tuesday's Beijing Daily quoted the official as saying that in 2005, the sales volume of the electronics and information industry hit 3,841.1 billion yuan (480 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 24.8 percent over the previous year.

The industrial added value reached 900.4 billion yuan (113 billion dollars), up 28.2 percent.

While the profits and taxes came to 174.2 billion yuan (22 billion dollars), up 6.5 percent from 2004, the import and export volume totaled 488.7 billion dollars, a rise of 25.8 percent.
