The timetable is not yet set for the six-party talks on the Korean nuclear issue, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao Tuesday.
The first phase of the fifth round of the six-party talks, held from Nov. 9 to 11, was the latest session where the process has stopped up till now. The talks involve China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the United States, the Republic of Korea, Russia and Japan
"The problem is that the DPRK and the United States lack enough mutual confidence and can not reach agreement on when to resume the talks," Liu told a regular news conference.
"The timetable for resuming the talks is unpredictable," said Liu.
China has been in close contact and communication with parties concerned about how to press for the resumption of the talks as soon as possible, said the spokesman.
China hopes all parties could take flexible and pragmatic attitudes to create conditions for the early resumption of talks, Liu added.
