British Welsh official to visit Hong Kong

First Minister for Wales of Britain Rhodri Morgan will visit Hong Kong on March 3, 2006 to coincide with a "This is Wales" showcase event and a visiting Welsh trade mission.

According to a press release from the British Consulate General on Tuesday, the First Minister is to develop business relationship between Wales and Hong Kong and to promote Wales as an attractive destination for investors and tourists.

While in Hong Kong, the First Minister will attend a reception hosted by the British Consulate-General to bring together Welsh trade mission companies with Hong Kong businesses and business organizations.

His program also includes calls on Hong Kong companies interested in developing their links with Wales and meeting with officials of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government.

The showcase, "This is Wales", at IFC Mall from Feb. 27 to March 5, highlights Wales as an exciting tourist destination and thriving economy, and allows visitors to explore its food and culture.

The First Minister will also visit Chongqing in southwest China after winding up his visit to Hong Kong.

There are 15 Welsh companies on the trade mission to Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland from Feb. 27 to March 3, which has been organized by the Welsh Assembly Government's overseas trade arm, Wales Trade International.
