Article published to commemorate Taiwan people's uprising, slash Chen Shui-bian

Lin Wenyi, Chairperson of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSGL) Central Committee, published on Tuesday an article commemorating the 59th anniversary of a Taiwan people's uprising.

Taiwan people initiated a week-long uprising from February 28, 1947 in the island against the then-ruling authority.

Lin said in the article that the uprising was a heroic and brave activity of the people on both sides who struggled for national liberation and reunification.

Lin strongly opposed the "Taiwan's de jure independence" attempted by Taiwan leader in the article, representing the TDSGL, one of the eight non-Communist parties.

Lin slashed Chen Shui-bian's decision to stop operation of the "National Unification Council" and application of "National Unification Guidelines".

The cross-straits relation has been developing in a peaceful and stable way since last year by efforts of the people on both sides. However Chen goes against the trend by overtly breaking his own promises, said the article.

Lin pointed out that Chen made the provocation in order to secure his own ruling power and distract people's attention from the lack of economic achievement and political scandal during his governing.

Chen made the promise of "five no's" on cross-Straits relations in May 2000, which included the pledge of "never attempting to abolish the 'National Unification Council' and the 'National Unification Guideline',"

Lin called for Chinese on both sides to intensify mutual exchanges and cooperation, and oppose all sorts of nation-splitting activities to advance the peaceful reunification of China.
