Chinese prison guards to be trained more competent for posts
font size

Prison guards across China are to undergo a one-year training program to better deal with emergencies and more effectively educate and remould the prisoners, said a senior official with the Ministry of Justice Wednesday.

According to a national televised conference held by the ministry, the training period started on March 1, and all the prison guards and officers will have courses on relevant laws, regulations and policies and emergency procedures.

Although the work of prison guards has been enhanced as a whole, much room remains to be improved, said vice-minister Fan Fangping.

The Ministry of Justice issued two documents to prohibit illegal activities among prison and labor camp guards, he said.

The ministry plans to send inspection teams to examine the results of the training program at various localities, he added.
