No bird flu detected in Nepal: veterinarian
font size

Veterinarians said consumers could have chicken without any hesitation, as the bird flu disease has not been detected in Nepal so far.

Senior veterinarian Dilip Kumar Deuja told reporters here on Tuesday that meat and egg cooked in temperature of over 70 degrees Celsius would have no effect on people's health.

More than 1,000 persons including senior veterinarians, social workers, poultry farmers and the members of the general public ate various chicken items and eggs at the Extensive Chicken Recipe Fair organized in Kathmandu on Monday.

Chickens worth 18 billion Nepali rupees (about 257 million U.S. dollars) were consumed in Nepal annually while 65,000 persons are directly employed in this sector.
