Nepali NGOs to get more funds in HIV/AIDS control
font size

Nepal's 35 non-government organizations (NGOs) in HIV/AIDS control will receive 15,000 US dollars annually under the Department for International Development (DFID) "Fast Track" Project and one NGO get 99,000 dollars under DFID's "Challenge Fund" project, an official said here Tuesday.

DFID has categorized the organizations into Fast Track and Challenge Fund, Ujjwal Barnal, national coordinator of Nepal Association of People Living with HIV/AIDS (NAPN) told a press conference.

The PLHA is the only organization to receive 99,000 US dollars, Barnal told reporters.

"The PLHA will allot 90,000 US dollars to 18 different grassroots organizations working in the sector of HIV/AIDS control, " Barnal said, adding, "The remaining 9,000 US dollars will be used for monitoring and evaluation of the projects."

The two projects were launched for the first time in Nepal to address the growing menace of HIV/AIDS.

"Keeping The Promise, Fighting AIDS Together" is the slogan for the two projects.

NAPN is a national membership organization that aims to bring together people living with HIV/AIDS across Nepal.

DFID is supporting organizations financially with the motive of helping HIV/AIDS infected people.
