Minutes of discussion of NPC deputies and CPPCC members from the PLA

Deputy Qi Jianguo: In his government work report delivered on the opening day of the 4th Session of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC), Premier Wen Jiabao explained the achievements of the last year by using 14 groups of figures, summarized the work characteristics of the last year into six aspects. He pointed out the problems existed in the economic and social lives and highlighted the five outstanding issues in the government work. He clearly defined the tasks and the objectives. In a word, his report is very pragmatic and inspiring.

Deputy Li Tiance: The report on the government work has great affinity, and it is permeated with the thought of governing for the people. The government attaches great importance to solving the problems facing agriculture, rural areas and farmers, education, employment and social security that are closely linked with the interests of the broad masses of people, thus it will certainly win their support.

Deputy Li Yuanzheng: The report sets forth the principal projected objective of economic and social development this year, its aim is to realize sustained, rapid, coordinated and sound development of the national economy, and all-round social progress. This objective is in accord with China's national conditions, conforms to the requirements of the times and reflects the wishes of the people.

Deputy Jia Xiaowei: The report clearly defined the guiding thinking for national defense and the army building, further pointed out the status of national defense and development objectives in the future, and highlighted the leadership of the Party. Especially it put forward that the army should make vigorous efforts to carry out military training this year, which conforms to the law governing the national defense and army building in the new period.

Deputy Zhu Qi: in order to ensure the fulfillment of the objectives and missions set forth in the report, an important thing we must do is to actively meet the requirements of accelerating independent innovation and building an innovation-oriented country, study and solve major realistic problems the troops are facing in their transition and development with an innovative spirit of progressing with the times and by centering closely on the strategic objective of building an informationized army and winning an informationalized war so as to enable our army to be able to shoulder the historic missions for the new century and new period.
