Minister of Information Industry Wang Xudong will attend the inauguration of Portugal's elected President Anibal Cavaco Silva as Chinese President Hu Jintao's special envoy at the invitation of Silva.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang made the announcement Wednesday.

Silva won the election on Jan. 22. The inauguration will be held in Lisbon on Thursday.
