Driven by the rapid growth of flat-screen TV, recovery of homemade mobile phone as well as wide use of laptops, the annual revenue of China's consumer electronics market is expected to hit 60 billion US dollars in 2006 and will grow at the rate of 15 percent to 20 percent annually. It is estimated that the market will exceed 100 billion US dollars in 2008.
Vice Minster of Information Industry Lou Qinjian said at a conference recently that the output of several categories of homemade electronic and information products ranked first worldwide. Consumer electronics products such as coloured TV set and mobile phone have witnessed rapid development, with the output of mobile phones reaching 300 million. Apart from that, the sales volume of LCD and plasma TV has all experienced a 25 percent growth. China has become the world's second largest consumer electronics market next to the US.
According to the statistics of Ministry of Information Industry, China has produced, sold and exported totally 82.8 million, 80.4 million and 39.7 million sets of coloured TV set, up 13.02 percent, 10.69 percent and 43.36 percent from the previous year respectively.
Flat-screen TV has been in the spotlight, seeing rapid growth. A survey shows that the price for flat panel TV at home market has dropped sharply by 35 percent last year. The retail volume of LCD and plasma TV has exceeded that of conventional coloured TV and accounted for 53 percent of the total market share.
The output of mobile phone, another key part of consumer electronics products has also increased dramatically. China manufactured totally 303 million mobile phones in 2005, taking up some 40 percent of the world's total. And MII predicted that the number is likely to exceed 340 million this year.
Statistics show that the notebook computer has realised a 50 percent sales increase, becoming the most important factor in PC market. The market share of top ten homemade laptops has amounted to 90.1 percent last year from 86.94 percent in 2004. It is said that such tendency will continue this year.
