Xinjiang to build China's largest oil and gas production base

Xinjiang is going to become China's largest oil and gas production base with its oil and gas output predicted to reach 60 million tons by 2010 and 100 million tons by 2020, according to Ismail Tiliwaldi, chairman of People's Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The chairman said the oil pipeline linking China with Kazakhstan has been put into operation, the pipeline is expected to transport oil to China in May this year.

In addition, construction of an oil refinery project with a designed annual production capacity of 10 million tons and an ethylene project with a designed production capacity of 1 million tons in Dushanzi is scheduled to be completed in 2008.
