U.S. air craft's assault in a far- flanged village in eastern Afghanistan in the wee hours Thursday left two persons including a woman dead and two others including a child wounded, a local official confirmed.
"Two persons including a lady and a rebel were killed and two others including a child and an anti-government militant wounded when the U.S. aircraft bombed Kandi Bagh village in Chaparhar district of Nangarhar province last night," press officer of Nangarhar police Abdul Ghafoor told Xinhua.
The strike, he said took place when the militants hidden in a house rejected Afghan troops' call to surrender.
"To eliminate the rebels, the U.S. air craft pounded the house killing two persons on the spot and wounding two others early this morning," Ghafoor said.
Both the injured including the rebel were taken to hospital. Ghafoor declined to identify the rebels' identity saying investigation is underway.
Remnants of the former Taliban regime and their al-Qaida and Hekmatyar's allies are active in the eastern provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar and Laghman.
Some 1,500 people with majority of them militants lost their lives in Taliban-linked insurgency in 2005 while the militants' attacks have claimed the lives of around 100 people including seven Americans and two Canadian soldiers since the beginning of this year.
