Malaysia's oil firm Petronas officially opened its first fuel outlet in the Jakarta suburb of Cibubur Thursday, marking a start of the company's ambitious target to build 200 outlets across Indonesia.

The outlet, actually has been operating since December last year, sells only high-octane petrol priced from 5,400 rupiah (58 U. S. cents) per liter.

Occupying an area close to luxury house complexes in Cibubur, the outlet was accompanied by a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant, an Automatic Teller Machine and a mini market.

Kamarulzaman Hasyim, director of the company's local unit Petronas Niaga Indonesia, said Petronas will build 200 outlets on Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan by 2011.

Speaking to journalists after the opening ceremony, Hasyim said Petronas also plans to sell low-octane gasoline than enjoyed government subsidies but the sales are remain under the monopoly of state-run oil and gas firm Pertamina.

Petronas is the second foreign firm to open fuel retail outlet in Indonesia after Royal Dutch Shell. The government has revoked retail sales of non-subsidized fuel products effective this year.

Previously, the retail presence of foreign companies is limited to lubricant oil.
