Sexual disease patients get better social solicitude in Nepal

The patients of Sexually Transmited Disease (STD) who earlier used to hide their diseases for fear of social stigma now are undergoing treatment without fear in Nepal.

The wide public awareness campaign about sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS and training on reproductive health is said to have made positive impact on people suffering from sexually transmitted diseases while encouraging them to undergo medical treatment.

Those men and women who have sexual contact with more than one partner have found suffering from sexually transmitted diseases and they are also vulnerable to AIDS infection, doctor at a district level hospital Abdul Rahman told reporters on Sunday.

He said the number of STD patients visiting his hospital has increased over these year. About half dozen out of 50 patients visiting the hospital on an average each day are found to be STD patients.

According to health worker Prem Shrestha, STD patients prefer to go to clinics and health centers for treatment rather than government hospital and health centers for confidential reasons.
