The 62nd annual session of the UN Human Rights Commission opened Monday but suspended minutes after opening.
Mnuel Rodriguez Cuadros, president the commission, announced the one-week suspension, citing stalemate at the United Nations headquaters in New York over the creation of a human rights council, which is supposed to replace the discredited commission.
A decision on the creation of the human rights council has been pushed back several times but could be taken in the coming days, according to UN General Assembly President Jan Eliasson.
