Brazilian police told reporters on Monday that they had arrested a Lebanese woman wanted by Interpol, as part of an investigation into the 1995 murder of Israeli prime minister Itzak Rabin.
The 38-year-old woman is also sought in connection with armed bank robberies which netted 4 million U.S. dollars in the Middle East, and for arms trafficking.
Police in the city of Sao Paolo arrested her in an upscale apartment on Sunday night. She was carrying an Irish passport, which the police said they believed was forged. They will interrogate her through an interpreter on Monday.
It is not clear how she was involved in the murder of Rabin, who was killed by Yigal Amir, a Jewish extremist, during a peace demonstration on Nov. 5, 1995. Israeli courts tried and convicted Amir who is now serving a life sentence.
Rabin won the 1994 Nobel peace prize for his part in negotiating the Oslo Peace Accord, between Israel and the Palestinians, and a peace treaty with Israel's neighbor, Jordan, during his second term as prime minister, which ran from 1992 until his death.
