An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale hit an eastern island of Indonesia at 3:04 p.m. Hong Kong time (0704 GMT) on Tuesday, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.
The epicenter of the quake was initially determined to be 3.6 south latitude and 127.3 east longitude, near the island of Seram, about 90 kilometers west of Ambon.
