Foreign trade in E. China province tops 36.8 bln USD during Jan.-Feb.period

Foreign trade in east China's bustling Jiangsu Province reached 36.79 billion US dollars during the first two months of this year, up 24.5 percent over the previous year, said the local customs.

Statistics show exports there soared 30 percent to 19.9 billion US dollars, while imports rose 18.5 percent to 16.89 billion US dollars.

Foreign-funded businesses contributed 82.6 percent of the foreign trade, with the volume standing at 30.38 billion US dollars, up 27.9 percent over the same period of last year.

The European Union, the United States, Japan, Taiwan and the Republic of Korea are Jiangsu's five biggest trade partners. Their trade with the province stands at 25.17 billion US dollars, which accounts for 68.4 percent of its total trade volume.

The province ranks second in the country in terms of foreign trade, with the volume accounting for 16.3 percent of China's total during the period.
