China General Administration for Industry and Commerce has uncovered more than 73,000 cases of fake products, worth of 9.08 billion yuan (about 1.1 billion US dollars) in the past five years, a senior official with the administration said Wednesday.
Wang Dongfeng, deputy director general of the ministry-level administration, said at the symposium on the "3.15 Consumer's Day" that the administration has handled about 4.4 million consumption cases and complaints in the past five years, incurring economic loss of 3.27 billion yuan for the consumers.
Despite the improvement, consumer rights in China still face big challenges, Wang said, noting that more efforts are needed on the aspects of consumption education among the public and the formulation of related laws and mechanisms.
The administration will endeavor to improve China's consumption environment for the public and exert more efforts on the protection of consumer's rights, Wang said.
